Isn't being in a woman's club like a sorority?
I didn't pledge in college, so I'm not sure
but it seems like if we are willing to volunteer
to assist the underprivileged we should be
willing to help our sisters too, right?
So why don't clubs have job boards?
I read a blog of a friend in a club/league/sorority
and she is desperate for a job
but neither of our clubs have a job board
to help club woman.
Does anyone know why that is?
Is it some sort of Taboo?
If we know about an opening, shouldn't we relay that
to our sisters/friends first?
That's the whole networking part of membership, right?
Please let me know what you think.
Cause I think it's very strange but I have only been a
member for a year so I'm not sure if I should
approach the executive board about it.

It might just be a case of no one thinking about it or knowing how to put the idea into action. You should go to the president and ask if its possible and if you can head that committee. I've found the biggest struggle with organizations is woman power. Sure, there might be 100 members but I bet only 20% are willing to go above and beyond the min requirements. I'm willing to bet this is the case. As the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world! I was in a similar situation with my League not having any focus on transfer members. I nearly quit bc of it. But then I spoke up many times. It wasn't that they didn't care, they just didn't think about it. They were unaware. And this year there is a new committee just for transfers. If I hadn't made time to talk to my pres, I know it wouldn't be happening this year. Sometimes it takes being a tad bit pushy for a good cause.
Great advice Preppy Pink Crocodile. I think that you are right on about that being the case most of the time. If something isn't directly affecting someone they aren't likely to think of it. But it certainly is a good idea and I'm sure that it would be worthwhile for not only club members but possibly their other friends and family who many be in the same situation!
It's not the League's role to keep a job board for members, nor is it part of the mission. There are other networking groups who's sole purpose it is to help find the hidden job market. While some of my friends have passed along job postings,(and that's all I can ask)there are still 5 qualified applicants for every one opening. Competition is stiff for the few jobs that are out there. And there are even fewer openings that match my skills. I'd change direction, but I am considered over qualified or a high risk of jumping ship. With jobs moving over seas at a higher rate of job creation here it is almost impossible to get everyone who wants to works back to work. The jobs being created are service, and retail jobs that pay peanuts.
It's a global economy and wages else where are less as the standard of living is less. Welcome to the new world order.
I love this idea, I am going to a Junior League committee meeting tonight, and will definitely be bringing it up!
